Space BIC

Space BIC by ERATOSTHENES CoE is a business incubation centre established to support the development of space-based entrepreneurship in Cyprus. It is established and operated by the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence with the support and funding from the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy (DMRID), the incubator aims to empower early-stage startups or individual entrepreneurs that will leverage satellite data, space technologies, or geoinformation services to address societal and market needs.

The total incubation period within the Space BIC by ERATOSTHENES CoE for the selected participants will be 48 months and two cycles are scheduled.

The Eratosthenes CoE has been established through the ‘ERATOSTHENES: Excellence Research Centre for Earth Surveillance and Space-Based Monitoring of the Environment’ with the acronym: ‘EXCELSIOR’, Horizon 2020 Widespread Teaming Phase 2 project. The “EXCELSIOR” project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme under Grant Agreement No 857510, from the Government of the Republic of Cyprus through the Directorate General for the European Programmes, Coordination and Development and the Cyprus University of Technology.

The Space BIC program is implemented by the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence and reflects the Centre’s mission and vision:

Mission

To enhance the understanding, monitoring, and management of natural resources and infrastructures by conducting cutting-edge basic and applied research, while providing innovative application services aligned with the latest advancements in Earth observation, space technologies, remote sensing, geospatial, and space technologies and applications.

Vision

To become a self-sustained, internationally recognized European Centre of Excellence in Earth observation, space technologies and geospatial information in the Eastern Mediterranean, with a strategic focus in the Middle East and North Africa (EMMENA region).
