Bio

Don Koulaouzos brings a wealth of international experience in business and technology across the telecommunications, technology, and aerospace sectors. He has held executive management and consultancy roles, including serving as a Non-Executive Director on the boards of two global satellite telecommunications companies—Inmarsat and Satellite Aircom.
He has served as a subject matter expert and strategic advisor to the UK Ministry of Defence on the Skynet 5 and Skynet 6 global military geostationary satellite communications constellations. His contributions included advising on space, control, and user terminal segments; conducting business case research and authoring reports; performing supplier and market analyses; eliciting user requirements; managing suppliers; and supporting contract negotiations. At Inmarsat, he was elected by the board to chair two strategic planning committees for the company’s second and third-generation satellite constellations.
Don’s technical expertise spans satellite and radio communications, global navigation satellite systems (GNSS), civil and military aviation, maritime and land mobile/remote area communications, and cybersecurity systems and processes. His business advisory capabilities
include strategic and business planning, negotiations, market research, international sales and
marketing, financial planning, governance, service operations, and product management.
A serial entrepreneur, Don is passionate about mentoring and knowledge-sharing. He serves as a mentor for ESA-BIC, CASSINI, and NASA Space Apps Challenges, and regularly judges pitch competitions, hackathons, and proposals for the ESA Technology Evaluation Board.
He has authored research papers and delivered presentations on topics such as GNSS, satellite communications, downstream services, and space entrepreneurship. He recently contributed a chapter on satellite navigation and timing for the anthology “
The New Space Age”.
Don is also a guest lecturer on space topics for several universities and has designed and delivered workshops and masterclasses on both technical and commercial aspects of the space industry. He is currently collaborating with a number of universities to develop and deliver a series of training programs aimed at supporting entrepreneurs and professionals in the space sector.
Don now leads a business & technology consultancy in the UK and Europe for large and medium enterprises.
He holds an MBA from the University of Sydney, along with commercial pilot licenses from both Australia and the United States, and qualifications in both professional and amateur radio.
